Behind the Scenes of a Portrait Session in My Pensacola Studio: Filmmaking Portrait Workflow

As a portrait photographer in Pensacola, Florida, I love to document authentic moments that highlight my clients' unique stories. Recently, I worked with two friends starting a filmmaking podcast who needed promotional portraits. Here's a look at my workflow and how I prepped my Pensacola photography studio to capture their creative vision.

Studio Prep and Inspiration

For this shoot, I drew inspiration from a recent Carhartt Work in Progress magazine. Before the session, I set up my photography studio with a portable partition wall to capture natural light during golden hour, creating a unique play of shadows.

Lens and Camera Choices for Filmmaking Portraits

Given the theme of the podcast—filmmaking—I focused on showcasing the environment. I began shooting with a 24-35mm lens, perfect for capturing the behind-the-scenes atmosphere of a film set. Later, I transitioned to a 50-70mm lens for tighter headshots.

Lighting and Flash Setup in My Pensacola Studio

For this shoot, I wanted a busy, gear-filled scene to capture the essence of filmmaking. Using a wide-angle lens, I included gear like C-stands, camera rigs, lights, and modifiers, emphasizing the “behind-the-scenes” vibe.

Final Thoughts: Why Authenticity Matters

Authenticity is at the heart of my work. By letting the environment and personalities shine, I create timeless portraits that resonate with my clients. Interested in booking a portrait session in Pensacola? Reach out via Instagram or explore my studio photography packages.
