Retrospekt Polaroid SX-70 Repair

Today I wanna talk about my Polaroid SX-70 and it’s repair at Retrospekt.

When I inherited this camera it wasn’t firing, so I knew I was going to need to send it off for repair. After some research, I discovered companies like Brooklyn film camera, mint,  Retrospekt, and landcamera.com all did repairs.

Based on lead time and price I did end up going with Retrospekt. I am very happy with how it came back. It was housed in a really cool case that included a statement about the history as well as some specs of the original SX-70. The hardshell case has a magnetic top and form-fitted holder inside that safely holds your camera. This could really come in clutch if you ever needed to send the camera in for repair or just general travel.

Retrospekt included a check sheet from the technician who performed the repairs. They outlined in detail what was repaired, replaced, or just cleaned and inspected. My unit was mostly just cleaned and inspected besides one solenoid that fired the shutter. That makes me feel like it was pretty gently used by the previous owner and it should still have a lot of life left in it.

So here are some photos I made on a photo walk/adventure around Pensacola. I was feeling inspired by a recent photo book purchase ‘Polaroids’ by Walker Evans, so I was looking specifically for hand-painted, antique signage. I’m very happy with how the images turned out.
